| MONDAY 20th of October 2008, Melbourne Intl. Airport: Today QANTAS' Airbus A380 made its inaugural commercial flight from Melbourne International Airport to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The aircraft left on time at 11.15am AEDT and is due to arrive in LA at 07.30am US West Coast Time). The flight was completely full with all 450 seats filled by members of the public, major press agencies and QANTAS executives. The flight will be met in LA by QANTAS' Ambassador-at-Large John Travolta, Australian Entertaining Legend Olivia Newton-John and the Mayor of Los Angeles, Mr. Antonio Villaraigosa. The A380 (VH-OQA) will return to Australia operating a LAX-Sydney flight in a few days time. Until the delivery of more A380's, OQA will operate MEL->LAX->SYD->LAX->MEL, etc. Mr. Geoff Dixon, CEO of QANTAS, said today that once QANTAS has received its first 8 aircraft, they will be operating daily services to LAX from both Melbourne. QANTAS is planning on operating its first Australia-London Heathrow Airport flight in January 2009. This flight will probably depart from Sydney and have a stop-over in Singapore. |
